“Do you want me, Corpse-father, to tally up well

ancient tales of folk, from the first I recall?”

      --from Völuspá, trans.  Andy Orchard

The team that produced Beowulf:  The Event welcomes you to immerse yourself in the world of The Poetic Edda, a sweeping collection of Norse mythological heroic tales, written down in the 13th century, from an oral tradition that is much older.

This is a performance immersion event, set in 11th century Iceland.  We will gather in the hall for a day of performance, as 30 storytellers from six kingdoms breathe life into the ancient verse.

The source material is a product of its time.  The stories depict prejudices of that time.  They were wrong then, and are wrong now, and do not reflect the views of the event staff.  We are presenting the material as is, because to do otherwise would be to act as if those prejudices never existed.

There will be no children’s or martial activities.

Those interested in performing, should contact the Artistic Director, Master Toki Skáldagörvir edda.director@ilk.org.

      Arts and Sciences Display:
To help set the scene and create a more historical atmosphere, the event is asking artisans to bring, or send to the event with someone who is attending, items of artistry that fit the general time period and culture of the poem, These items will be incorporated into the set display where the performance is to take place.
Any and all historically appropriate physical arts are welcome:  metal working, embroidery, costuming, bead making, wood working, weaving, horn carving, etc.

If you are interested in participating please e-mail Mistress Lissa at 137268@eastkingdom.org

We will be keeping a list of promised/potential items for planning purposes, but last minute items will be very welcome
Items can be dropped of at Gate prior to the start of the performance, or during the first intermission.  Cards will be available to appropriately label items, but artisans are invited to bring their own museum type labels to put with their artistic works.  Event staff will also do their best to take pictures of the items displayed at the event to share with the Kingdom at large.  Please note that the artistic items on display will not be specifically monitored during the day, but they will be easily visible to those attending the event.  At the end of the day, artisans are asked to pick up their items from where they were displayed, or from Gate if clean up is already in progress.
